Mũi Né: White Sand Dunes, Fairy Stream & Kitesurfing Beach

Mũi Né, situated along Vietnam's south-central coast near Phan Thiết, has evolved from a sleepy fishing village into one of Southeast Asia's most unique and trending adventure travel capitals for 2026.

Distinguished by its microclimate featuring towering Sahara-like sand dunes, coastal wind patterns, and dramatic canyons, Mũi Né provides a desert-meets-ocean aesthetic unlike anywhere else in Vietnam.

1. White & Red Sand Dunes, Vietnam

The White Sand Dunes (Bàu Trắng) located 25 km north of town are the star attraction. Featuring vast rolling dunes surrounding a calm freshwater lotus lake, visitors can rent ATVs (quad bikes) or slide down the steep dunes on plastic sleds. Sunrise over the White Dunes is an iconic bucket-list experience.

Closer to the town center are the Red Sand Dunes (Đồi Cát Đỏ), famous for their rich terracotta shade that turns glowing crimson during golden hour.

Planning Your Mũi Né Trip

To make your Mũi Né adventure trip run smoothly, keep these practical tips in mind:

  • Timing the Sand Dunes: Visit the White Sand Dunes at sunrise (5:30 AM) to experience cool morning temperatures and golden photo light, or visit the Red Sand Dunes at sunset. Avoid mid-day heat.
  • Pack Water & Barefoot Gear: Walking through the Fairy Stream requires shedding shoes to walk in ankle-deep water. Carry a small dry bag for your footwear and phone.
  • Kitesurfing Wind Season: The prime wind window runs from November through April. If taking kite lessons, choose an IKO-certified school along Nguyen Dinh Chieu street.

Mũi Né provides a unique desert-meets-ocean frontier. Ride quads across rolling dunes, wade red canyons, and catch ocean breezes along Vietnam's south coast.
